Sacred Heart Parish uses a whole-family approach to faith formation. The
General Directory forCatechesis and the
Catechism of the Catholic Church clearly state that parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith. Vatican II documents refer to the family as the "domestic church". The family is the place where the faith is lived out every day; where our Catholic identity is forged and strengthened tthrough family activities such as family prayer, Scripture reading, sharing of Gospel values both in word and in deed, weekly mass attendance, or the use of Catholic images and objects in the home.
In order to support parents in their rightful role as educators in the faith for their childen, Sacred Heart parish offers a program in which the whole family comes together for catechesis on a regular schedule. The religious education sessions are facilitated by catechists and other qualified presenters, supported by a variety of published curricula. Additional materials are sent home with families so that faith sharing discussions and activities can be continue throughout the week.
This whole family approach to faith formation is known as "
Households of Faith". It is our prayer that Households of Faith will grow to include our entire parish community, as we all strive to answer our call to witness to the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.
